Join us for an Info Meeting for our Israel-Jordan – Holy Land Trip – April 9-20, 2018

I will be hosting an information meeting this Sunday morning, Nov. 5, for those of you interested in joining us for an Adult Discipleship Tour to the Holy Land: Israel and Jordan, to walk in the footsteps of the Jesus, Moses and the Apostles.

A trip to the Holy Land is like no other. The words of the Book seem to jump off of the page and take on living color. They become charged with sights, sounds and smells, and the experience will be re-lived every time you open the Bible to familiar stories that were once only two dimensional. Wherever you turn, from the Sea of Galilee to the Old City in Jerusalem, the Land displays evidence of God’s presence, His miracles and His plans. Walk where Jesus, Moses and the Apostles walked, and experience a trip that will stay with you for a lifetime.

We have added a special extension to this trip into the historic land of Jordan. We will proceed along the Exodus route to Wadi Rum, along the King’s Highway into the heartland of Midian, which played a crucial part in early Israel’s faith (Exodus 3: 1-18). We will go up to Petra, and visit the famous Royal Tombs of Petra.

The information meeting is this Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10:30a, in the Connection Corner at NCCTK – North County Christ the King in Lynden, WA.

If you can’t make it to the meeting, but want information on the trip, send me an email at mark@markwarrenassociates.com, and I will email you the trip brochure. I hope you will consider joining us for this life changing trip.

Habits vs. Goals

Habits vs. Goals = A World of Difference in Actions and Outcomes

“First forget inspiration.
Habit is more dependable.
Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not.
Habit is persistence in practice.”

— Octavia Butler

In my work coaching leaders to increase their "effectivity," I am constantly amazed how many leaders have never made the connection that the real game changer in changing behavior and reaching outcomes is practicing habits, and not focusing solely on goals.

Ponder this idea in this blog post from our friends at Farnam Street:

Habits vs Goals : A Look at the Benefits of a Systematic Approach to Life  https://www.farnamstreetblog.com/2017/06/habits-vs-goals/

Reading Non-Fiction Using a Template For Note Taking

One of my favorite adult learning, leadership, and brain research books is Brain Rules by Dr. John Medina. This is must reading for leaders who want their communication to stick. Dr. Medina tells us that if you want your brain to remember well, especially if you are reading, you must engage as many of the senses as possible.

I have been in the habit for years of making specific notes in non-fiction books as I read them. This helps my brain to stay engaged with the writer, ask questions, summarize, create next action items, and even identify presuppositions and ideas I disagree with.

My long time Virtual Mentor, Michael Hyatt, recently posted a simple template designed to be used for taking notes while reading non-fiction books. Whether you use Evernote, Word, Pages, Workflowy or even, paper, this InSIGHT template with greatly enhance your non-fiction reading. This template will guide you in tracking 8 elements as you read. You can get a free download of the template of your choice at Michael Hyatt's website here: https://michaelhyatt.com/maximize-non-fiction.html

Using this template enables you to engage many more sensory inputs than just visually reading words, which will lead to much, much higher retention of what's important to remember.

Start 2017 with a Plan For Your Life

If you aim at nothing, that's what you will hit. And if your life is full of clutter and piles it is difficult to take focused aim on what's important.

To help you design a plan for your life for 2017, and get your life organized, I recommend two books that are free audiobook downloads until Jan. 31.

My go to book for life planning and refocusing your life is Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want by Michael Hyatt & Daniel Harkavy. Here is the free audiobook download link, which is good until January 31: http://christianaudio.com/free/

The other free audiobook download is the national bestseller: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. This is more about organizing and decluttering your personal space, but it is amazing, when you have a clean and clear work space, how much easier it is to do the creative and important work of life planning. Here is the free audiobook download link, which is good until January 31:  http://www.audible.com/promo/offer/2761/ref=a_at_redeem_pc_redeem_2761?p=TIDYUP1&bp_o=true&source_code=SAHFPEM121616002R&ipRedirectOverride=true
